The iPhone and Android platforms are two of the hottest in the mobile space and are used extensively for running applications and surfing the web. The AdMob January survey also measured their interest in buying the iPad and iPhone users were overwhelmingly more excited than Android owners.

I had my T-Mobile SIM in my Nokia N900 and then iPhone 3GS this morning when I saw the Twitterverse actively posting on a possible T-Mobile data outage for Google Nexus One owners. I popped my SIM in my Nexus One and sure enough, data seems to be down for me too. There are quite a few comments about this on the T-Mobile forums and T-Mobile has not yet posted anything to inform us about what is going on. The thing is, data works just fine on my iPhone 3GS and Nokia N900 so it is definitely related to the Nexus One. I also popped my SIM back in my old T-Mobile G1 and verified data works just fine there too.

I am amazed that there has been so much chatter on Twitter and the Internet over the “Google phone” these past few days since there is nothing new here and all it looks to be is an upgraded piece of hardware that was fully expected. Sascha Segan posted exactly what I feel about the Google phone and rather than write up my same thoughts I highly recommend you read his latest column explaining why this device is NOT a game changer, iPhone killer, savior to the US smartphone market.

I’ve been using fring on my Nokia devices for years and just last week they announced two-way video calling for select Symbian devices. They are now following up this week with the announcement for the iPhone that gives iPhone and iPod touch owners the ability to VIEW video calls from callers over Skype or fring. With your WiFi-connected iPhone or iPod touch you can interact via voice to the person shown on your display, but you cannot make video calls from your iPhone or iPod touch. If Apple includes a front facing camera on the iPhone in the future then you will be able to make video calls as well.

We wrapped up the Mobius 2009 event last night and since we spent most of the time talking about topics under NDA there isn’t much of anything I can share with your at this time. I recommend you check out Jason Dunn’s post on his new Windows Phone Thoughts site for coverage of what could be shared. HTC was kind enough to give each attendee an HTC HD2 device to evaluate so I wanted to post some first thoughts after spending the full day with it as my main device. I posted a video on YouTube with a short walk around the device and will post a full review early next week after a few more days with it. There is a ton of excitement about this device and after showing it to an iPhone owner here at work he said, “So this is what the next generation iPhone may look like.” HTC pushed Windows Mobile to the extreme with this device and it shows in an amazing product.
