Firefox Mobile version 1.0 now available for the Nokia N900

January 31st, 2010 by

As I stated in my Nokia N900 review the Nokia N900 has the best web browser of any mobile phone. This statement was made about the default web browser and now we have a final version of an alternative web browser that works amazingly well. Firefox for Mobile version 1.0 is now available for the Nokia N900 and if you have a N900 I highly recommend you download and install it now. It is a free web browser with the very compelling Weave Sync support to keep your Firefox experience synced across multiple computers.

UPDATE: What was up with the T-Mobile data outage for Google Nexus One owners?

January 30th, 2010 by

I had my T-Mobile SIM in my Nokia N900 and then iPhone 3GS this morning when I saw the Twitterverse actively posting on a possible T-Mobile data outage for Google Nexus One owners. I popped my SIM in my Nexus One and sure enough, data seems to be down for me too. There are quite a few comments about this on the T-Mobile forums and T-Mobile has not yet posted anything to inform us about what is going on. The thing is, data works just fine on my iPhone 3GS and Nokia N900 so it is definitely related to the Nexus One. I also popped my SIM back in my old T-Mobile G1 and verified data works just fine there too.

MobileTechRoundup show #194, CES wrap-up, Nexus One, & N900

January 16th, 2010 by

James, Kevin, and I recently returned from CES 2010 in Vegas and kicked off MobileTechRoundup show #194 talking about some of our impressions of the show. I was quite pleased with CES this year, even though there wasn’t a ton of mobile phone news and stayed very busy. We all agreed that the Lenovo U1 hybrid stood out and caught our attention. Kevin and I both purchased a Google Nexus One while in Vegas and are overall quite happy with the device. We are also both rocking along with a Nokia N900 and the beta Ovi Store launch just took place after our CES return.

Ovi Store rolls out in early beta form on the Nokia N900

January 14th, 2010 by

I posted my full review of the Nokia N900 a couple weeks ago and mentioned that there were ways to get some applications on the device through different Application Catalogs. I popped my SIM in the other day and found a new firmware update available followed by activation of the Ovi Store link on the device. Tapping on the Ovi Store icon takes you to the store.ovi.mobi site in the web browser. This is the beta version of the Ovi Store that actually recognizes you are on the N900 and only shows you applications that are designed to work with the Nokia N900. By my count, there are currently 31 applications, 11 games, 33 audio/video pieces of content, and 9 themes.

Review: Nokia N900 shows there’s a web browser for that

December 24th, 2009 by

I’ve written a couple of times here on the blog about the fact that I have been using an evaluation Nokia N900 since October with my loan period expiring in January. I have been focusing on writing up a TON of posts as I created the Definitive Nokia N900 Guide to give my Nokia Experts readers all the details on this extremely powerful device. As a Christmas present to you kind readers here on my ZDNet blog I decided to also post a full review of the Nokia N900 for you all to unwrap and enjoy. You may want to start with my image gallery, move down to my video, and then read the details about my experiences with the device. At the very end of this review you will find out exactly what I think of the device after using it quite heavily these past two months.

MobileTechRoundup show #192, Nokia, Nook, and T-Mobile HSPA+

December 11th, 2009 by

We started off MobileTechRoundup show #192 with one of my favorite topics, Nokia. They posted their 2010 plan and I was able to recently share my experiences with their devices. James has an HD2 and Kevin has a Nokia N900 so we chatted about those experiences as well. Kevin also tested out the new super fast T-Mobile wireless data network and discovered the N900 supports it well. My nook also arrived and I offered up some initial thoughts.

Nokia N900 Maemo device now shipping to retailers

November 12th, 2009 by admin

I have been using a pre-production Nokia N900 for about a month and created the Definitive Nokia N900 Guide as I answer questions and put the device to the test. We finally received word from Nokia that the Nokia N900 is now shipping to retailers in Europe, Middle-East, Russia and North America. The best deal we currently see here in the US is from Amazon where the pre-order price is currently $559.99. This is a full unsubsidized price so no contracts are needed and you can use it with either T-Mobile or AT&T.
