2011 was a very exciting year with significant growth in Android, steady progress for the iPhone, and still limited adoption of Windows Phone.

For those readers in the 40 year old range, you might like the retro Atari 2600 game provided on Windows Phone 7 this week. Pitfall! was awesome when I was 13 and all those great sounds are now back on modern devices.

It was extremely difficult to come up with just a top 10 list for smartphones this year as the market explodes. Interestingly, seven of my top 10 are Android device. What is your favorite so far this year?

Late last year HTC rolled out its Quietly Brilliant campaign along with some fantastic Windows Mobile and Google Android devices. 2010 should be a banner year too with many more devices running both of these operating systems.

Last June I wrote a review of AT&T Navigator for the iPhone and thought it was a very good solution for GPS navigation. I popped my SIM card in my iPhone 3GS last night and saw there was an update to version 1.5i that I read about on the TeleNav blog was just released a couple of days ago. You can find the latest version on the iTunes App Store (iTunes link) where you will also find TeleNav has a pricing option for $69.99 for a year instead of the $9.99/month option. The monthly option is convenient if you only need the navigation option for a couple months a year, but like I mentioned in my Android post the year option is the best deal.

As we wrap up 2009, I wanted to put together another one of my reference posts that looks at the devices I have reviewed over the past year, along with some fun awards for the devices I had the chance to try out. You can check out my 2008 year in review post and see what I thought about the mobile phone world at that time.
